So, what is my politics? Well, first drop the assumption that because I'm black, I'm a democrat. Most of my family is but I guess I'm the "black" sheep of the family. Hah! Hah! Truthfully, I'm not really impressed by either party and think Sam Waterson is on to something with pushing for a bipartisan ticket in the '08 election. If the democrats would just stick to the economy, I'd have no problem with them. But they are forever tinkering with social issues and as a conservative, I disagree with them in this area most of the time. On the other hand, the Republicans profess to share my values and mores on social issue but I do have a problem with their apparent disdain for the working poor and their seeming support of the rich. When all is said and done, however, the democrats and the republicans are in bed with each other and none of them are interested in improving the lot of their constituents. You know the saying, "Politics makes strange bedfellows."
I know there is some black person out there saying "but those republicans are so racist." I'd like to take this moment to say that I think both democrats and republicans have no respect for blacks as a voting block. The only difference is democrats pretend they care, especially around election time. They care about blacks just as much as republicans do.
So I guess this is where I rock back on my faith. There is no politician that can fix our problems. They are part of the problem. The moral decay and cultural rot cannot be fixed by any man. I believe what we need is a spiritual revival. So I guess ultimately, my faith isn't in the republican party. It's in Jesus Christ. Yeah!!
